My Thoughts:
After reading and falling in love with Pushing the Limits last year (you can find my review of Pushing the Limits HERE) I could not wait to get my hands on Beth's story and I'm happy to say that Dare You To did not disappoint, it's just as emotional and heart-wrenching as PTL.Beth is the kind of girl that your parents warned you to stay away from, she drinks, she smokes and she curses like a sailor. But behind that tough exterior is a girl that has been hurt so much that she is broken, she uses the tough girl attitude as a shield to keep people from getting too close to her so that they can't hurt her.
On the surface Ryan Stone's life seems perfect; he has the perfect family, he's the best pitcher his high school baseball team has and he's on the fast track to play in the pros, but his life isn't as perfect as everyone thinks it is..
I really so sorry for Beth, she has been through so much in her short seventeen years, things that no one should have to go through, let alone a child. After reading Dare You To and finding out about everything that she has went through, I can completely understand why she is so guarded and so untrusting.
I love the relationship between Beth and Ryan, it played out so realistically and I'm so glad it wasn't the instant love that we often find in books. With someone who has been hurt as much as Beth has in the past, it takes time to earn their trust and had this book not incorporated that aspect it wouldn't have been believable.
Dare You To was an amazing read, McGarry knows how to draw you in from the very first page and leave you wanting more. I'm excited to see what she has in store for Isaiah in Crash Into You.
